Bath mats are useful for absorbing excess water after showering and bathing, but unfortunately can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold due to the moisture, combined with the lack of ventilation, in the bathroom. In order to reduce the spread of bacteria and other allergens, it is necessary to wash your bath mat on a weekly basis. Bath mats can easily be washed by machine washing it separately from your other garments.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Well-ventilated area
  1. Step 1

Load the washer with a mild detergent in cool water. Using a potent detergent can cause skin irritation when you step on the mat after bathing.

  2. Step 2

Set the washer to a gentle setting. A normal wash cycle can wear at the threads on the bath mat, or remove the rubber from the bottom of your bath mat.

  3. Step 3

Hang your mat to dry. Allowing the bath mat to air dry removes moisture completely and maintains the condition of the bath mat. Your mat should be hung outside or in well-ventilated room.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not put your bath mat in the dryer, as it can melt the rubber on the back of your mat.
