1
Select a remnant fabric at the fabric store that is a neutral and complementary color to the existing curtain and the new scarf fabric.
-
2
Expand the curtain rod by 6 inches by sliding it apart in the middle. Cut the remnant fabric in 3-inch strips and starting at one end of the non-decorative curtain rod, wrap the rod evenly so that the new fabric spirals across the rod covering up the plain rod metal surface. Use safety pins to tie off the ends.

3
Rehang the existing curtains on the wrapped rod and position the curtains to the sides. The wider rod should hang past the curtain brackets by 3 inches on each side of the window.
-
4
Drape the window scarf from one side of the rod to the other using the extra rod area as the drape back area for the scarf. For scarfs made with slippery fabric, it may be necessary to pin them at the top in an out of sight position so that they do not slide off. The scarf should have a nice swag in the middle. Any exposed rod that remains visible should look like an expensive textural covered rod.
