How to Remove Ink With Hairspray

Ink pens are handy, but the stains they can leave on clothing and furniture can be very discouraging. You may think there is no way to remove that stain, but there is a common household item that can do the trick. Hairspray works most of the time. It can remove stains from clothing, furniture and carpet.

Things You'll Need

• Non-aerosol hairspray
• 2 small cloth towels or paper towels

Instructions

1. Blot the ink stain, whether it be on clothing, furniture or carpet, with a dry towel to remove as much of the ink as possible.

2. Apply a small amount of hairspray over the surface of the stain and let it sit for a minute.

3. Place a cloth towel or paper towel over the stained area and gently apply pressure. Most of the ink will absorb into the towel at this point.

4. Rinse the area with hot water to remove the remaining ink and hairspray and let dry.

5. Do a load of wash if the stain was on clothing. Make sure to air-dry the clothes. Putting them into the dryer might cause a permanent stain.

• Using a non-aerosol hairspray will help control how much you apply to the stain. It's important to treat the stain as soon as you notice it. The sooner you treat it, the higher success rate you will have in removing the stain.
