How to Give an Infant Liquid Multivitamins
Most infants receive an adequate amount of vitamins from breast milk or formula, but some need an extra boost due to illness, lack of nutrition from a nursing mother or poor feeding habits. Vitamins in liquid form are best for infants because their ability to chew and swallow solids is not yet fully developed. Always check with your pediatrician before giving your infant any type of vitamin or medication.

1
Open the bottle of the liquid vitamin and extract the proper dosage into the syringe by pressing the bulb of the syringe while the tip is immersed in the liquid. Release the bulb, and the liquid should fill the syringe. If you get too much, press the bulb slightly to release the extra liquid back into the bottle.

2
Pick up your baby and hold him comfortably in your arms. If your infant feels safe and comfortable, he is more likely to take the vitamin easily.

-
3
Touch the tip of the syringe to your baby's lips in order to give him a taste of the medicine. Give him a few seconds to lick his lips and get used to the flavor.
-
4
Squeeze a few drops of the liquid vitamin gently into your infant's mouth. Don't squeeze too much at once or he may choke or spit it back out.
-
5
Continue this slow, steady process until you've given the entire dosage.

Tips & Warnings
If your baby seems to hate the taste of the liquid vitamin and consistently spits it out, ask your pediatrician about mixing the required dosage in with something your baby eats well (formula or baby food).
Pay close attention to dosage whenever administering vitamins or medication to an infant. Overdosing can pose a serious risk for your baby.
