How to Wash a Futon Cover
A futon cover can be an invaluable asset when extending the lifespan of your futon mattress. Along with changing the look of your mattress, it will take the brunt of spills and dirt, protecting your mattress. - Futon cover
- Washing machine
- Dryer
- Stain remover
- Mild detergent
- Water
- Soft sponge

Washing a Futon Cover

Remove the futon from the mattress carefully, making sure not to tear the mattress or the cover.

Find a tag on the cover that has the machine wash instructions. This will tell you the proper settings and methods for washing your cover. If you can't find one, proceed to Step 6.

Use a stain remover on any stains on your futon cover. Make sure the stain remover is safe to use on the fabric making up your futon cover, otherwise you run the risk of damaging it.

Machine wash the cover according to the instructions on the tag.

Dry the cover according to the instructions on the tag. If there are no drying instructions, you can let the cover air dry, or you can dry it on a very low heat setting. After it is dry, put your cover back on your futon mattress.

Alternatively, you can wash the cover using a soft sponge, a mild detergent and lukewarm water if it doesn't have a tag explaining the best way to wash it. This is going to be more time consuming, but you won't be running the risk of severely damaging your cover.
