How to Create Your Own Birth Announcements
There is nothing more precious than a newborn baby. Babies grow so fast, and it is important to capture every moment during their early years. Families often send birth announcements with the baby's hospital photo to friends and family members to welcome their new child. But purchasing birth announcements is expensive, especially if you plan to mail the announcements. Create your own birth announcements to save money, and add your personal touch.

Instructions

1
Open a new Word document under the "File Menu." Create a document that is 6-by-6 inches. This will split your card stock into 4 sections.
-
2
Insert the announcement text. Under the "Insert" tab choose to add a text box
-
-
3
Add an introduction line before announcing the baby's name. Common opening lines include "We welcomed with love..." or "Our newest addition to the family..."
-
4
Announce the baby's name. Include the baby's entire name, or opt to include only their first and middle name. After the baby's name, include the birth details. These details include the baby's weight, length, birthday, time of birth, and birthplace.
-
5
Include the parent's names and the siblings' names at the end of the invitation. Add a short poem or phrase before the family's names to add a personal touch.
-
6
Leave room on the invitation for the baby's picture. Add a digital copy of the baby's picture to the announcement by using the "Insert" tab. If you do not have a digital copy, you can leave room to glue the baby's picture. Under the "Insert" tab, add a rectangle. Make the rectangle's dimensions the size of the baby's picture. This will ensure that you left enough room for the picture, and you will be able to wrap the text around this box.
-
7
Cut the card stock into 6-by-6-inch pieces. Use a ruler to aid you in this process.
-
8
Select "Print" from the file menu. Change the paper size to 6-by-6 inches. Print announcements on a plain sheet of paper to ensure that the print settings are correct.
-
9
Add ribbon to the birth announcements. Measure ½ inch on all of the corners on the announcement, and mark the measurements with a pencil. Draw a faint line to make a ½-inch border around the announcement. Cut the ribbon into 5-inch length pieces. Apply glue to the back of the ribbon with a glue stick, and place the ribbon over the faint pencil marks.
-
10
Glue the baby's picture if a digital photograph was not available. Use the glue stick to apply glue directly on the back of the photograph.
-
11
Add embellishments to the announcement. Be creative when decorating the announcement by adding paper punch decorations, ribbon, stickers or glitter.
