Applying Decals To Porcelain Ornaments
-
1
Select a glazed porcelain ornament light in color. Make sure the ornament has a flat surface the image can be applied to.
-
2
Measure the surface of the ornament, specifically the space where you are going to put the picture. On the computer use photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or iPhoto to adjust the size of your digital photograph according to the measurement of the ornament.
-
-
3
Print the photograph on decal paper using an ink jet printer. Set the printer options to print high resolution on glossy photo paper. Place the decal paper in the printer so the glossy side is printed on (consult your printer manual for instructions if you are not sure how to place the paper). Let the printed decal paper dry.
-
4
Evenly spray the decal paper with acrylic clear coat spray. Let the paper dry at least 60 minutes.
-
5
Using scissors or a craft knife and self-healing mat, cut the image out from the decal paper.
-
6
Put the image into a bowl of clean water. Remove the decal from the water when the backing paper starts sliding off the decal. This should happen after approximately 30 to 60 seconds.
-
7
Apply the decal to the ornament by placing it on the flat surface of the ornament. Make sure the decal is smooth when put onto the ornament. Let dry completely.

Tips & Warnings
The photograph will not show up on the ornament if the color of the ornament is too dark. Select a white or light colored ornament to apply the photograph.
This application is meant for ornamental purposes only. Do not submerge the ornament in water. Spray the clear coat acrylic spray in a well ventilated area to avoid inhaling the spray.
