How to Remove Solder With a Hot Air Gun

Removing solder can be tricky, unless you have a heating agent that is able to melt the solder--like a hot air gun. The process is very simple and straightforward. Essentially, by heating the solder, you are turning it back into a liquid and allowing it to drip off of whatever your solder connection is (or was). A heat gun can also be used to remove solder from places where you accidentally spilled it while soldering.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn the heat gun on and allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature.

  2. Step 2

Aim to heat gun at the solder you want to remove.

  3. Step 3

Move the heat gun over the solder slowly and evenly so that you heat the solder up to its melting point.

  4. Step 4

Remove the solder with a Q-tip once it has melted. The Q-tip should be absorbent enough to pick up the liquid. You may need large Q-tips to ensure this.
