Instructions

    • 1

Remove all leaves and debris from the area that will be planted.

    • 2

Use a hard rake to work the ground that will be seeded. The ground should be loose and not hard or packed down.

    • 3

Sow the grass seed. Use a heavy amount of seed to cover the soil. Add Scotts starter fertilizer according to the directions on the package.

    • 4

Water the seed immediately after sowing the seed. Give it a good soaking, but do not flood the ground and make the seed float.

    • 5

Apply water every 10 hours, or more often during the day in very hot weather, until you see the blades of grass. The idea is to keep the ground moist so that the seeds germinate. After the first week, when you start seeing sprouts, start watering the grass once a day.

    • 6

Mow the grass after the blades reach a height of two to three inches. If you can leave the blades to grow longer, this will allow the roots to develop further and give the grass a stronger hold.

    • 7

Wait six weeks, and add more seed to the new lawn if the grass appears thin. Throw down more seed sparingly and don't prep the soil as you did in Step 2. Water the grass once a day until the new seed takes hold.
