Many hotels around the world today provide access to the Internet, through either a wireless or a wired connection. If you are staying in a hotel that has a wired land land that provides access to the Internet, converting it to a WiFi connection takes nothing more than connecting a wireless router. Many hotels already have wireless connection available, so be sure to check for that access before you start setting up your own WiFi. You may also want to ask permission before you expose the hotel's Internet to other potential users.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wireless router
  1. Step 1

Set up and plug in your wireless router. The router will require electrical power, and just plugging the router in will turn it on.

  2. Step 2

Plug one end of the cable that comes with the wireless router (usually a cat-5 Ethernet cable) into the port on the wireless router marked "Internet" or "Uplink."

  3. Step 3

Plug the other end of the wireless router cable into the land line jack at the hotel that provides Internet access.

  4. Step 4

Place the router in a central location so that all the computers you want to have access to the Internet will be as close as possible to the router.

  5. Step 5

Turn on your wireless computers and devices, and they will be able to access the wireless router and the Internet.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can configure security with the router to require a password to access the Internet.
  • You may need permission from the hotel to set up any wireless access.
