Cat spray odor is a problem for many cat owners, especially those who own male cats that have not been neutered, which are the most likely to spray. The only way to truly and effectively get rid of the odor from cat spray is to clean the affected area, because as long as some of the cat spray is still present the scent will persist. Areas affected with cat spray require deep cleaning to remove the odor, which means more than simply removing the stain.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Blot the recently sprayed area with a dry towel.

  2. Step 2

Dampen the towel with warm water and blot the stain again.

  3. Step 3

Clean the affected area with a carpet cleaning solution purchasable at any supermarket.

  4. Step 4

Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of warm water (or more as needed, but keep it a one to one ratio) and saturate the area with it.

  5. Step 5

Leave the area to dry for a few hours or until the carpet is no longer soaking wet but is still a little damp.

  6. Step 6

Cover the area in a generous amount of baking soda.

  7. Step 7

Leave the area to dry completely.

  8. Step 8

Vacuum the area until all the baking soda has been removed.

  9. Step 9

Use a fabric freshener such as "Febreze" on the affected area and the area surrounding it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cleaning any affected areas immediately after they have been sprayed will make the process easier and reduce the risk of them being sprayed again.
  • Before using the carpet cleaning solution or the vinegar mixture on any visible portion of your carpet, first test it small hidden area to see how it will react.
