    • 3

Sand the cupboard doors and drawers with fine grade sandpaper. Clean off dust and debris with a clean cloth.

    • 4

Apply one coat of primer to the fronts of the cupboard doors and drawers with a brush. Also prime the area of the cabinets to which the doors and drawers are attached with hardware; the facing, as this section will show in the final product. Let primer dry completely.

    • 5

Apply one coat of your base chosen color with a brush. Apply to the same areas as mentioned above regarding the facings of the cupboards. This is the color that will show through slightly once the cupboard has been distressed. Allow to dry completely.

    • 6

Apply the top coat of paint to the cupboard doors and drawers using a brush. This will be the dominant color for the cupboards. Cover all applicable areas. Allow to dry completely.

    • 7

Distress the cupboards by hitting them gently with the hammer, padlock and keys in a random fashion. This will give the illusion of age and antiquity to your cupboards. Sand the edges of the door fronts and drawers to remove some of the top coat of paint and allow the base coat color to show through.

    • 8

Apply a coat of sealer to the cupboards to complete the look and protect the finish.

    • 9

Re-attach the doors and drawers to the cupboards. Re-attach the hardware.
