Making a ballerina costume can be a fun way to give your little girl the look she wants without much cost. Use items you have around the house to create the perfect look for your small girl. Make her the kind of costume that she can use to do arabesques and pique turns all around the neighborhood.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Leotard
  • Tights
  • Tu-tu
  • Ballet shoes
  • Pink ribbon
  1. Step 1
    ballet stockings

    ballet stockings

Start by purchasing a pair of stockings for your child. The stockings should come to the child's waist. Look for stockings that call to mind a ballerina. Pink or white will look best for a costume. Look for stockings if possible that have decorative detail such as stitching and beadwork.

  2. Step 2

Find the right leotard. A good leotard should go atop the stockings and bring to mind ballet in the minds of the person looking at it. Choose a leotard that has intricate detail if possible such as lace work. A good color to use is pink. White also works as well. Use colors for the leotard that harmonize with the stockings to create a unified look.

  3. Step 3

Top the leotard and stockings with a tu-tu. A tu-tu is a thick band of tulle that fits over the waist and makes the ballerina look as if she has a full figure. Look for tu-tus that coordinate with the colors of the leotard and the stockings. Pink or white are ideal. Use bright colors that can easily be seen by others.

  4. Step 4

Add the right footware. Ballerinas use toe shoes and point shoes. Toe shoes in bright pink are ideal for younger ballerinas who do not feel comfortable with point shoes. Use point shoes if you have an older child who is more comfortable with wearing point shoes.

  5. Step 5

Place the child's hair in a ribbon. A ribbon and neat bun can complete the look of a ballerina. Gather the hair in strands and roll around a center. Keep in place with a rubber band and pretty pink hair ribbon. The ribbon should be easy to see from a distance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add ballet details such as embroidery to the bodysuits and leotards.
  • If the hair does not fit in a bun use a ponytail holder instead.
