Creole Coated Fried Shrimp
Creole Coated Fried Shrimp

This is a very easy and economical coating for frying shrimp. The perfect blend of seasonings are achieved with the garlic, Creole spices, and salt.

This Creole coating is never overpowering. It adds a subtle Creole flavor, enhancing the taste of the shrimp.

While this is the recipe for a Creole coating for shrimp, I felt that I should follow through and give instructions for coating the shrimp, along with the cooking process.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. Creole seasoning
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • small bowl
  • desired amount of shrimp, shells and veins removed
  • deep fryer or deep sided skillet
  • enough cooking oil to completely cover shrimp, about 3 inches in the bottom of the pan
  1. Step 1

Put the flour, Creole seasoning, garlic powder and salt into the small bowl. Using clean fingers, stir until well blended.

  2. Step 2

Heat the cooking oil to 375 degrees.

  3. Step 3

Thoroughly wet shrimp with water. Some people use eggs to make the coating stick to the shrimp. I prefer water.

  4. Step 4

Dredge the wet shrimp in the Creole coating, turning to make sure each shrimp is thoroughly covered.

  5. Step 5

Coat as many shrimp with the Creole coating as will fit into your pan. Place the Creole coated shrimp into the hot oil and fry until the shrimp turn pink and the Creole coating turns a light golden brown. Usually about 3 to 4 minutes. Continue this process until all Creole shrimp are cooked.

Tips & Warnings
  • Creole coated shrimp are delicious when dipped into seafood sauce, tartar sauce or even ranch dressing.
  • Don't over cook your Creole coated shrimp. You will end up with a rubbery textured, unappetizing shrimp.
