Things You'll Need:
- Kosher packaged food that doesn't need refrigeration(kosher smoked salmon (lox), kosher wine, chocolates, cookies, nuts, dried fruit, etc.)
- Chanukah dreidel
- Jewish-themed decorations (blue ribbons, a snowman, snowflakes, mini-menorah, etc.)
- Chocolate Hanukkah gelt
- basket or hamper
- blue or white tissue paper
- Hanukkah greeting card
-
Step 1
Buy your supplies (listed in Things You'll Need) at a local or online Kosher food outlet and Jewish gifts retailer. Select food and gift items of varying sizes for the most aesthetically pleasing hamper. Choose a basket that has a wide base--it's easier to fill and it looks more stuffed full of holiday goodies than a long, thin gift basket.
-
Step 2
Choose the Hanukkah gifts, treats, and goodies appropriate to the age and tastes of the person for whom you're making the gift basket. If you're making the gift basket for a family or large group, get a wide variety of treats, including savory treats besides lox, since some folks may be vegetarian. Ideas include bagel chips, roasted nuts and pretzels.
-
Step 3
Gather your supplies together on a large table surface. Spread a layer of tissue paper on the bottom of the basket or hamper. You can also use glossy cellophane paper for a more luxurious look.
-
Step 4
Start filling the gift basket or hamper with food items, starting with the large items first. If you're including kosher wine, hold off on putting in the bottles until you have a few items already in the basket to prop up the wine. Add the small food items last.
-
Step 5
Add the Hanukkah-themed novelties next, tucking them into the spaces betwen the food. Spread ribbon decoratively over the goodies, and stick in other winter holiday decorations. Put the dreidel and/or mini-menorah in a prominent place in front.
-
Step 6
Write a greeting in your Hanukkah card and tape it to the front of the basket or the side of the basket handle. See Tips for instructions for preparing it to be shipped.
