Make a Gluten Free Apple Tart
Make a Gluten Free Apple Tart

After trying unsuccessfully to find a gluten free tart recipe, I finally invented an excellent apple tart by improvising. This tart can be made with other fruit such as pears or peaches.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crust
  • 1 C Almond meal
  • 1/4 C Powdered sugar
  • 2 T Chilled butter
  • 1 1/2 T Cream or Soy Dream soy milk
  • Fruit:
  • 1 large Apple, peeled and sliced (or pear)
  • Topping:
  • 1/3 C Almond meal
  • 1/3 C Blanched almonds
  • 1/2 C (or less) White sugar
  • 3 T Butter, chilled
  • 1/4 t Cinnamon
  • 1/4 t Vanilla
  • 1/4 C Oatmeal (Gluten-free if available)
  1. Step 1

In food processor mix dry crust ingredients briefly. While food processor is running slowly add in cream or milk, mixing until the dough clumps together in a ball. Chill for 15 minutes, rolls out into a circle on a piece of plastic wrap. Transfer to pie, tart, or spring-form pan. If not using crust right away, place in refrigerator to keep cool.

  2. Step 2

Placed slices apple on crust in a decorative pinwheel or other pattern-slightly overlapping edges, leaving 1/2 inch of crust uncovered around the edges.

  3. Step 3

Mix topping ingredients, sprinkle over apples (do not put on crust). Bake oven preheated to 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

  4. Step 4

Also great with a whipped topping, ice cream or caramel sauce on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe can also be used with pears and other fruit. Or you can add raisin, dried cranberries, etc. to the apples for more flavor. Also taste good when served at room temperature.
  • T = Tablespoon
  • t = teaspoon
  • Makes 4 to 8 servings
  • Oatmeal in crust is optional.
