If you are prepared for a possible power outage in the winter, you will lessen your anxiety and raise your comfort level if the need actually arises.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take an inventory of your basic survival supplies. You should have on hand enough supplies to cover your family’s needs for at least two weeks. Make sure you have enough non-perishable food, pet food, medications, sanitary supplies, propane, and gas for your generator. You should also have plenty of warm blankets and clothing. Families with pets, babies and small children, and people with special needs may have other concerns to think about as well.

  2. Step 2

Look for sales, and stock up on any supplies you might be low on, or just don’t have. A generator is a must for those with medical equipment that runs on electricity.

  3. Step 3

Next, make sure you keep all of your equipment in good running order. Check your generator, propane grill or cooker, and any other survival equipment you might be using during a power outage, on a regular basis.
