How to Connect a Parallel Zip Drive to Someone Else's Computer

You can connect an external parallel-port Zip drive to any PC that's running Windows 95 or 98. You can copy files to or from Zip disks.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Shut down the computer.

  2. Step 2

    See "How to Connect a Zip Drive to a Computer," and follow the instructions to connect the drive. Windows should recognize the drive when you reboot.

  3. Step 3

    Put the IomegaWare Install disc in the CD-ROM drawer. Close the drawer.

  4. Step 4

    Double-click My Computer.

  5. Step 5

    Double-click the CD drive icon.

  6. Step 6

    Double-click Guest98.exe or the Guest icon.

  7. Step 7

    Install Guest according to the instructions on-screen.

  8. Step 8

    Reboot the computer.

  9. Step 9

    Put the Zip disk in the Zip drive.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also install Guest from the Zip Tools disk.
  • If you don't have an IomegaWare CD or a Zip Tools disk with you, download the drivers from Iomega's Web site.
  • Use Zip disks as you would when the drive is connected to your own computer.
  • Use an optional Iomega Zip drive battery for extra convenience.
