Pick the Perfect Haircut for your Face Shape

Picking the right style haircut for your face shape should not be difficult. Read these tips to determine the best style for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

For those of you with round faces, your goal should be to minimize the amount of volume around your face. Try cuts that fall just right below the chin with soft and light layers. Layers make your face appear longer and slimmer. Layered and tapered ends elongate the face. If you decide on bangs, keep them long or swept to the side. Don’t make your hair curly because it will only add to the roundness.

  2. Step 2

Square faces usually have strong and angular cheekbones and jaw lines. If you have longer hair, keep it sleek and sexy with layers starting at the jaw line. You should avoid one length bobs because they will only make your face appear harder and that is not that image you want to convey.

  3. Step 3

Oval faces have the most versatile look. You can get away with long or short hair. You can go with a short bob with side swept bang or long tresses that cascade down your back. Try to stay away from short layers because it adds unnecessary height.

  4. Step 4

Long or oblong faces work well with curly and wavy hair to add width to the face. It helps take away from the length. For shorter lengths, have your stylist cut the back shorter for more volume. Be careful if you decide to sport a long hair look because you don’t want to weigh your face down.

  5. Step 5

Heart shaped faces are great, but you want to draw attention away from your chin and draw it to your eyes and cheekbones. If you have shorter hair, keep the top layers soft and long.
