Decorate a Vase, the Fun Way

Ever thought of making a decorative vase at home without knowing exactly where to start? This is a simple project that does not require too much effort. From glass vases, a ceramic vase, or a flower vase, you can make a beautiful vase at home by taking a tall jar or container and decorating it. Get creative with objects that you find at home like paints, beads, buttons and seashells. You can gift these vases to your loved ones, instead of buying a vase at a supermarket/store. This hobby idea is so simple that even a child can spend time creating his/her own vase.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jar or Tall container (glass/plastic); Clean cloth; Acrylic Paints; Brushes; Paint Pens; Beads; Seashells; Construction Paper or Card Stock; Sequins; Glue; Scissors
  1. Step 1

Clean the outer surface of the container with a piece of damp cloth . This will ensure that fine dust and dirt that is sticking to the surface of the container is removed.

  2. Step 2

If the container's surface is not smooth and has some bumps, you can cover the container with construction or card stock paper.

  3. Step 3

Bring the paper to the mouth of the container and stick it with glue.

  4. Step 4

To cover the area where the paper is stuck with glue, use a pretty ribbon. The ribbon helps camouflage the mouth of the container where the paper is stuck with glue.

  5. Step 5

Paint the designs of your choice on the construction/card stock paper, using acrylic paints and paint pens. It is best to trace the designs lightly on the paper with a pencil first. This way, if you do make any mistakes you can fix them. You can paint stars, flowers, images, geometric shapes, just about anything.

  6. Step 6

Allow the paint to dry completely and don't be in a haste to get the project done. Be especially careful when handling ceramic vases.

  7. Step 7

Once the paint has dried, you can get your glue out and stick pretty things on the vase. If you want your vase to have a shimmery look, you can stick sequins of various shapes. Make use of broken pieces of jewelry, beads and shells of various shapes and sizes. You can even paint these items beforehand and then stick them on to the surface of your vase.

  8. Step 8

Give sufficient time for the glue to dry and Voila! your vase is ready.
You can have fun with your kids making vases. Kids can make vases and gift it to their parents on various occasions too.
