How to Develop Positive Thinking
Even though the term "positive thinking" is cliché, it is imperative for people to maintain for a happy, fulfilling life. Positive thinking creates inner peace and builds stronger relationships and health. Thinking positive thoughts gives you the power to look at even the worst situations in a better light. Avoiding negative people and situations, and surrounding yourself with positive-minded people instead will help you make the switch to a more positive mindset. However, being positive doesn't mean you have to be like "Pollyanna" -- it's important that your thoughts are also rational and realistic. Does this Spark an idea?

Use words that evoke feelings of strength, happiness and success. Use phrases such as "I can," "I am willing," and "It is possible," because it reinforces that there is a way to accomplish whatever task is at hand. Framing these statements in the present tense makes it feel more real like it is already happening.

Write down the activities and things that make you feel fulfilled, happy, strong and successful. If running, kickboxing or writing make you feel better, then you might want to pursue them further. If you enjoy swimming, fashion and travel, sign up for the swim team, spend time creating a new wardrobe, and plan future trips. By engaging in the activities you enjoy, it puts you at ease and makes you happy.

Surround yourself with the things you love -- artwork, photos, furniture and anything else that appeals to your senses.

Challenge negative thoughts and people. Don't accept the negative. Change your focus to something positive whenever you can. For every negative thought, think of two positives. Just make sure your positive focus is also realistic and believable.

Be grateful for everything that you have. Remember, there is someone who would love to have some of the things you take for granted. Be thankful for your family and friends.

Expect successful outcomes, work through challenges, don't give up when things go badly, and don't condemn yourself if something does not work out the way you planned initially. Go with the flow.
