How to Attach a Patch to Your Karate Uniform ( Gi )

Each martial art style has it's own logo. While training, a uniform is worn called a gi. A common karate gi resembles a cloth type suit. A colored belt is worn to represent your level of achievement. Many times a patch is worn on the gi, to identify a certain style of karate.

Things You'll Need:

  • a karate patch
  • tape measure
  • needle and thread
  1. Step 1

    In the wonderful world of martial arts, respect and honor is taught to all. To represent , and show passion for your particular style a logo type patch is usually worn by all students. Each logo is different depending on the style.

  2. Step 2

    The patch is a separate piece of material, that needs to be attached to the uniform ( GI ). A common area for placement, is on the gi jacket. The left chest area is where most karate styles demand the patch be installed. A general idea to consider, the patch should be attached as close to your heart as possible. This represents, your love for your style of karate .

    Many patches have a self adhesive film, that just need to be ironed on. I recommend using this system, simply to temporally hold to patch in place, until you can use a more traditional method. With a needle and thread sew your patch in place, Be sure not to run any seems threw the patch but rather around the perimeter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask teacher for exact instructions
  • never use sharp tools with out help from an adult
  • don't burn gi when ironing patch in place
