Things You'll Need:
- 6-8 tea bags
- 1 gallon glass container
- 2 cups of sugar
- the sun
-
Step 1
First you will need to make sure the weather is going to be decent enough to make your sun tea. Check and make sure that the sun will be out and little to no clouds will be present for atleast 3 hours. Check the weather or the radar before you decide to go on.
-
Step 2
Once you have decided that the weather will cooperate with making sun tea. Get out your tea bags. One the ways the decide how strong you want your tea, as well as how long you want to leave it out is the number of tea bags you will use. So decide the number of tea bags and lay them out. Remember 6 tea bags for either weaker tea, or to leave the tea out longer. 8 teas bags for stronger tea, or to leave the tea out for a shorter amount of time.
-
Step 3
Now, get your glass container. Fill it to about an inch below the brim, with tap water. Now place the tea bags into the container, and put on the lid tight. Making sure to leave the tea bag strings hang outside of the lid and container.
-
Step 4
Now place the tea outside in a spot that is in the direct sun, and will remain so for several hours. Best way to do this is to take a lawn chair or small stand outside to place the container on.
-
Step 5
Once it has been placed outside check the time. Make a note of the time you placed it outside. If you used 8 tea bags, check the tea in 3 hours. If you used six tea bags, check the tea in 4 hours. The tea will be well brewed when it has a dark brown color to it all the way through. Make sure you check the tea, and do not just assume it is done by the length of time. (If you used 8 tea bags and want stronger tea, let it sit out for 4 hours instead of three.)
-
Step 6
Once you are sure your tea is done bring it inside. Remove the tea bags, and pour the tea into a different container for storage and serving. Once it is in the new container, mix in two cups of sugar, and stir well. If you like super sweet ice tea, add sugar as needed. You can also use any other type of sweetener you would like for this, but will need to use an amount based on your own testing.
-
Step 7
Once the sugar has been added, place the tea into the refrigerator. Let it chill for an hour before serving. Now the container you used to make the tea in, needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Use hot water and lots of soap.
