How to Clean Porcelain Barbecue Grills

Things You'll Need
- Metal or plastic washpan or container large enough to hold the cooking grates
- Ammonia
- Dishwashing liquid
- Water
- Brass or stainless steel scrub brush
- Grill and propane tank

Ignite the grill and turn the flame adjustment knobs to the highest setting.

Close the grill cover and allow the grill to burn for 10 minutes, then shut it off.

Scrape the grates with a brass or stainless steel brush to remove as much baked-on filth as possible.

Remove the grates from the grill when they have cooled and place in a metal or plastic container.

Saturate the porcelain grates with dishwashing liquid to cut through the grease.

Pour ammonia over the grates until they are covered and let them soak overnight.

Rinse the grates in clean cold water and place back on the grill, which is now ready for cooking.

Do not use a carbon steel brush on porcelain grills. It can chip and scratch the material.
