The Riccar 1500P is a canister style vacuum cleaner for the home. On occasion the 1500P may stop working in the middle of vacuuming. This can be frustrating for many users as there may not be an apparent reason for the vacuum shutting down. The 1500P has a couple of safety features installed on the cleaner to prevent injury to the user and damage to the machine or carpet.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement dust bag
  1. Step 1

Turn the vacuum cleaner off by pressing the power switch on the main body of the cleaner to "Off," and unplug the unit from the power outlet.

  2. Step 2

Push the hose firmly into the suction hole on the main body of the vacuum cleaner. You will hear a click when the hose is secure. The vacuum will not operate if the hose is not connected properly.

  3. Step 3

Pull up on the dust cover latch, and lift the cover off the main body. Check if the dust bag is overfull. An overfull dust bag decreases air flow through the machine and causes the unit to heat up. If the unit heats up, the over-heating safety feature will shut the cleaner off.

  4. Step 4

Remove the shutter over the dust bag by pulling up on it if the dust bag needs to be replaced. The shutter helps hold the dust bag in place.

  5. Step 5

Hold the dust bag holder, and pull the dust bag off. Discard the dust bag in a waste receptacle.

  6. Step 6

Place a new dust bag on the holder, replace the shutter and put the dust bag cover back on the main body of the vacuum.

  7. Step 7

Check the power brush for any blockages, and clear them if needed. Any object that blocks airflow could cause the vacuum to overheat.

  8. Step 8

Wait 20 minutes, plug in the vacuum cleaner and operate it again. The safety mechanism will shut off after this amount of time, allowing you to operate the cleaner again.
