How to Learn the Human Skeleton

With a count of 206 total bones, the human skeleton is one of the most complex skeletal systems in nature. Whether you need to learn the skeleton for a class or just for fun, it is important to know how the skeleton is composed. Although 206 may sound staggering, learning the entire human skeleton is not as difficult as one may think. By using a few techniques and breaking the skeleton into groups and sections you will be able to learn the human skeleton in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Break the skeleton into sections. For example, try to learn all of the bones from the neck up and work your way down. You may also choose to work from the bottom up if this method is easier.

    • 2

Go to the Clker website and print out their diagram of the human skeleton. White out the label names and make a photocopy so that you have a diagram with blank labels. Try and complete the labels without looking at your notes.

    • 3

Sketch a particular bone and its location on one side of a flash card. Write the name of the bone and some facts about it on the opposite side. Create as many flash cards as you want.

    • 4

Print out a diagram of the human skeleton or use one in a book that you are allowed to write in. Take a highlighter and highlight a section of the skeleton such as the legs or arms. Use several different colored highlighters for the rest of the body. This is a useful tool, especially if you are a visual learner.

    • 5

Use your own body. Study a diagram and as you recite the term point to its location on your body. Say the term aloud and point to it at the same time. The act of pointing and reciting will make it easier to remember.

Tips & Warnings

  • For best results, use one or more of these techniques every day.
