How to Copy Files From an iPod Touch to a PC

The iPod Touch from Apple is essentially an iPhone without the phone, and it can store music, videos, photos and applications. Transferring these files from your iPod Touch to your PC is almost as easy as plugging in your iPod and only takes a few minutes for you to backup your entire iPod Touch library to your PC.

Instructions

  1. Moving Files from iPod Touch to PC

    • 1

Enter Windows Explorer and navigate through your Tools menu to your Folder Options screen. Click "View" and, under "Advanced Settings," click the "Show hidden files and folders" button. Click "Okay" and approve when prompted by the Windows security warning.

    • 2

Plug your iPod Touch to your PC. Allow for a minimum of 30 seconds for the computer to recognize the iPod as a storage device.

    • 3

Create a new folder to store your iPod files once you move them from the device.

    • 4

Go to your My Computer screen and select the iPod Touch folder. Open the folder to find several of your media folders.

    • 5

Enter the folder from which you want to move files. Select the files in question and drag them from the iPod folder to the new folder on your desktop to copy them from your iPod.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many times the file names may be scrambled or even complete jibberish. However, the ID3 files (titles hard-coded to the file) remain intact and can be unscrambled inside of iTunes.
