How to Use Game Torrents

BitTorrent is a popular protocol for downloading large files online. It splits the files into smaller, more manageable pieces to be distributed from user to user. Although BitTorrent is often used in an illegal capacity to download movies and music, it is entirely possible to use it to legally download open-source games.

Things You'll Need:

• BitTorrent client
• BitTorrent search engine

1. Download and install the BitTorrent client of your choice. For PCs, uTorrent is an excellent choice, as it is lightweight and easy-to-use. For Macs, Transmission is an excellent client.

2. Point your web browser toward any legal BitTorrent search engine. Legittorrents.com and Legaltorrents.com are both excellent search engines for downloading legal games.

3. With your BitTorrent client running, download a .torrent file from the torrent search engine. Instruct your operating system to open the .torrent file using your bittorrent client of choice.

4. Upon completion of the download, leave your BitTorrent client running to distribute, or "seed", the files to others. This is what keeps the BitTorrent network running.

Tips & Warnings

• Bittorrent uses both the upload and download portions of your Internet connection, so it is in your best interest to upload as much as you download!
• Downloading copyrighted materials is illegal and can cause your ISP to disconnect your internet service.
