Many websites and applications use JavaScript. After formatting your computer or uninstalling Java, JavaScript may not work correctly. Replacing JavaScript is as easy as reinstalling Java. Viruses, corrupt installations or conflicting programs may all cause problems with your current Java installation. Installing Java is a simple process that is mostly completed through a wizard. Java is also available for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems freely. After reinstalling Java, JavaScript will be replaced and begin working correctly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Java site. Select your operating system on the left side of the screen. Choose to download the online or offline installation. Click "Instructions" beside any operating system to be taken to the offline installation download.

  2. Step 2

Download your chosen file and double-click the file to begin the Java installation wizard.

  3. Step 3

Follow the wizard prompts to complete the installation process. Unless you need advanced settings, choose the default settings. This will also install Java for your Internet browser.

  4. Step 4

Restart your computer once the installation is complete for all settings to take effect.

  5. Step 5

Test a JavaScript application to ensure Java installed correctly. If the application loads correctly, then Java was installed properly. If you still have problems, open the Java application and check for software updates. Allow any updates to download and install.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save your download file in the event you need to format your computer. This will save on download time later. Offline installation downloads all required files at once. Online installation downloads part of the files needed during the first download and the rest during the installation process.
  • Only download Java from the Sun website. This will ensure your copy of Java is safe.
