How to Kill Mold on Foods

Foods begin to mold within 24 hours of preparation, causing spoilage that leads to wasted groceries and leftovers. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and antimicrobial, prolonging the freshness of prepared foods. Molds thrive in alkaline environments, so applying vitamin C sprays or basting food in citrus fruits or juices such as lemon juice naturally provides acidic preservatives and prolongs the shelf life of food for packaging and freezing purposes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Vitamin C Food Detoxification

    • 1

Preheat the oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit, or bring water on a stove top to a boil on high, as high heat kills microorganisms such as mold and bacteria. Wash food with pure spring water. Prepare food mixture or dice food while the oven or water is preheating.

    • 2

Store the food in a sealed container. Place the container in the refrigerator until the oven or boiling water has reached the desired temperature so as not to expose food to airborne mold spores and moist air.

    • 3

Cut a lemon in half. Squeeze lemon juice over the food so that it covers all parts, or add 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice per cup of boiling water to detoxify the food by neutralizing the bacteria and mold. Place lemon-soaked food on an oven tray or directly into the boiling water.

    • 4

Cook food in the oven at 240 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 30 minutes or boil food on high for one hour to kill bacteria and mold. Spray or wipe a clean storage container with lemon juice while the food is cooking. Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator.

    • 5

Take the food out of the oven or boiling pot of water. Place the prepared food directly into the container. Sprinkle lemon juice over the top of the food. Seal the container tightly so that moisture does not get in. Place the food in the refrigerator or freezer immediately after preparation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plastic bags allow moisture to get in and begin decaying food. Bread and baked goods wrapped in bags and left out grow mold within three to four days. Porous foods develop mold at a fast rate when exposed to air and moisture. Adding 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin C to baked good mixtures is effective in detoxifying.

  • Discard any food that has molded, as the consumption of poisonous mycotoxins leads to hazardous health conditions of toxicity.
