How to Find My Lost Alltel Phone

Losing your Alltel cell phone may cause a brief moment of panic. However, in many cases you can locate your phone within a few hours. There are also ways to prevent anyone from stealing personal information from your phone in the event your Alltel phone is stolen or found by an unsavory person. Normally, a cell phone has simply been misplaced and can be found in a few easy steps. You should note that Alltel has been acquired by Verizon Wireless in the event you need to contact the service provider.

Instructions

1. Call your Alltel cell phone from another phone. This works if you know the general area where the phone was lost. Use another cell phone, and keep calling until you hear your lost phone ringing. Or have someone call repeatedly from a landline phone, as you walk around the area, listening for the ring.

2. Retrace your steps. Look in your car, then go back to stores and restaurants you've visited. Particularly for locations more than 30 minutes away, call first to see if the cell phone has been found and turned in.

3. Contact Alltel, which is now part of Verizon Wireless. Let them know the phone has been lost. They can temporarily disable your account so no one else may use the phone using your account information.

4. Provide customer service with your account information and ask them to track the location of your SIM card. As long as your cell phone is turned on, customer service should be able to locate it. Newer phones also allow data to be remotely deleted if the phone is turned on. Note that data will not be seen during this deletion process.

5. Use the GPS tracking feature on your phone, if available. GPS tracking works either through a website you access from home or by contacting Alltel.

Tips & Warnings

• Contact Alltel/Verizon to disable a lost phone no later than 12 hours after the disappearance. If you're certain the phone is inside your home, this isn't necessary. If your certain the phone has been stolen, contact the provider immediately. Alltel/Verizon has an insurance plan for cell phones. If you have insurance, permanently lost phones can be replaced free of charge.

• Avoid placing highly sensitive personal information on your cell phone. The more data stored on your phone, the more a thief can steal should the phone be stolen.
