Tools used around the house for various things such as gardening or mechanical work eventually become worn down. With proper care and maintenance after each use, you can make them last longer. In addition to the tools themselves being cleaned, the tool handles need cleaning, as well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water Hose
  • Sponge
  • Scouring pad
  • Liquid soap
  • Old toothbrush
  • Wet washcloth
  • Dry washcloth
  1. Step 1

Spray off the tool handle with water while using the sponge to clean off any surface dirt and dust that has accumulated on the handle. If there is any grease built up on the handle, you may need to use a heavier duty sponge to scrub out the grease buildup.

  2. Step 2

Add soap to the scouring pad and scrub the handle with the pad thoroughly. This will scrub off any built up dirt or grease that has accumulated on the handle over time.

  3. Step 3

Wash the handle off with water and clean off any excess soap and dirt with the sponge. Take the old toothbrush, add more soap to it and scrub the crevices in the tool handle.

  4. Step 4

Clean off the handle with the sponge and water again. Use the wet washcloth to wipe off any visible dirt or soap on the tool handle. Thoroughly clean off the handle as best as possible and inspect it to see if there is any residual dirt or soap left on it.

  5. Step 5

Wipe off any excess water using the dry washcloth. Keeping handles dry will help keep mold or rust from building up on them. If you are able to hang your tool up by its handle, then you should do that as well.
