How to Make Ice-Looking Window Clings

Window clings are semi-transparent, spongy shapes made of colored gel. They stick to glass and other glossy surfaces without adhesive. They can decorate windows and mirrors, either for holidays or just for fun. They are also a fun project for parents to do with children. Window clings can be found in a variety of shapes and colors, from butterflies to pumpkins to snowflakes and icicles.

Instructions

    • 1

On the paper draw several large, simple snowflakes and pointy icicles in pencil. Trace over the lines in felt-tipped marker to make the lines thicker. This will help when you begin to draw with the paints.

    • 2

Lay a sheet of wax paper over the drawings. You should be able to see the drawings through the paper. Weight the corners of the paper with small stones or the bottles of paint.

    • 3

Outline the drawings with clear, blue or white window cling paint. Place the tip of the paint bottle on the line and squeeze gently, moving the bottle smoothly along the line.

    • 4

Use a different color for each snowflake or icicle. Fill in the icicles with the same color you used to outline them; fill the icicles in completely, but don't worry about smoothing out the paint. Let it be bumpy, bubbly and textured. This will make it look more like real ice.

    • 5

Allow the window clings to dry overnight. Gently peel them off the wax paper and place them on your windows. Place icicles close to the top so they look realistic.
