How to Put on Handwraps

Handwraps are used to protect your hands when boxing or doing martial arts that involve punching regularly. These simple devices provide padding and support for the fragile bones in your hands, fingers and wrists. Our hands are not meant to withstand the constant abuse that boxing puts them through, which is why it is necessary to use a handwrap the proper way. This wrapping technique can be used for any standard handwrap, whether it be velcro or tie-off.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stick your thumb through the loop located at the end of the handwrap.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the handwrap around your wrist three times.

  3. Step 3

Bring the wrap up across the back of your hand so it comes to the first knuckle of your forefinger. Wrap it across your knuckles three times.

  4. Step 4

Position your hand so your palm is facing away from you with your thumb pointing down. Bring the wrap diagonally across your hand so it meets the bottom of your wrist.

  5. Step 5

Wrap it around your wrist 1 1/2 times. The wrap should be at the top of your wrist at this point.

  6. Step 6

Bring the wrap into the curve between your thumb and forefinger. Wrap it back around to your wrist again and make one more layer.

  7. Step 7

Wrap it around your hand two more times so both your palm and the back of your hand are completely covered.

  8. Step 8

Wrap around your knuckles two more times and secure the wrap in place on the back of your hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not wrap so tightly that it is uncomfortable. It should be loose enough that blood flow is not restricted, but tight enough that it secures your wrist and protects your knuckles.
