Instructions

    • 1

Cut off any trim on both ends of the towel, including ribbed or stitched areas. Fold under each raw edge and stitch, then repeat to make the end hems. If there is no trim on the ends of the towel, skip this step.

    • 2

Add trim if desired. This is where you can get creative. Sew on a ruffle, a satin trim, or a wide grosgrain ribbon to add personality to your project. You may choose to add a single line of trim down the front edge only or follow the hemline on the front and bottom edge of the wrap.

    • 3

Fold under 2 inches at the top and sew to make the elastic casing. Pin a big safety pin to the end of the elastic to help thread it through the casing. Sew elastic to the wrap at both ends of the casing to anchor.

    • 4

Add Velcro closures at each end of the shower wrap. This will be a little tricky because you'll be sewing through thick layers, so take your time, sew slowly and make turns by hand--with the needle deep in the fabric, lift the foot and turn the material.

    • 5

Make a pocket with the matching washcloth. Sew the top hem and add trim across the edge, then turn the edges under at angles, position on the front of the wrap and sew around three sides to make the pocket.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lightweight towels will be easier to sew but won't feel as luxurious. Use smaller towels for children, or sew two bath-sized towels together for a large person. If you have a machine that does embroidery, you can also add a monogram, appliqué or embroidery pattern. Elastic should measure about ¾ of the total width (around the body) of the wrap. Shower wraps make great gifts for guys, too. To personalize, use his favorite sports team colors and trim.
