How to Make Food That Looks Like a Graduation Cap
Graduation at all ages is a remarkably special time, though perhaps less popular than major holidays, birthdays and weddings. Thus, it can be difficult to find decorations and specialty food to celebrate the occasion. Custom-designed food is often overpriced and requires advance booking. Luckily, creating food that looks like a graduation cap is easy and enjoyable.

Set the oven to 350 degrees. Grease your baking pan with oil or butter. Mix the eggs, milk and cake mix in a bowl until the consistency is smooth. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake in the oven for 33 to 35 minutes.

As the cake cools, mix drops of blue food coloring into the vanilla frosting until you achieve the desired shade of blue. Apply the frosting to the cake as smoothly as possible, not permitting any bumps or waves. You can use a knife for this procedure or a small, flat, triangular-shaped spatula.

Using your icing applicator, apply icing to the wafer sheet. You should make vertical lines up and down the sheet which touch each other. Place the wafer sheet on top of the cake.

4
Mix the yellow food coloring into your remaining amount of frosting and, using the frosting applicator, draw the tassel of the graduation cap on top of the wafer sheet. You decide how long or short it should be and whether or not you want it to hang down, touching the base of the cake.

Tips & Warnings
You can cut and shape other foods into mini graduation caps: for example, slice a piece of sausage for the base of the cap and cut a piece of salami into a square for the mortarboard. Add a piece of spaghetti for the tassel. This technique can be done with a variety of meats and cheeses. For a healthier option, you can replace the sausage with a banana and the piece of salami with a thinly sliced piece of apple.
