Step 1
Place seeds in individual peat pots about a month before your outdoor temperatures will average 65 degrees. The pots will need a place where they will get sun, or you can use grow lights. Keep the temperature around the pots at approximately 70 degrees and the soil moist. Seed will germinate in 14 to 40 days.

Step 2
Prepare soil. For containers, mix one part compost, one part builder's sand and two parts peat moss and fill the container to an inch to two inches below the rim, depending on the size of your container. For cultivating the ground soil, dig soil and mix in a bucket full of compost and a few handfuls of sand. The location should be in full sun or very little shade. Install a trellis before planting the Rhodochiton.

Step 3
Plant the seedlings in the peat pots directly into your prepared soil. They should be level with the new soil, so you may have to break off the lip of the pot so as not to create a dish that holds water around the plant.
-
Step 4
Water the plant well immediately after planting to make sure all the surrounding soil is damp. Keep the soil damp while the roots are getting established. When you see the plant starting to grow, water when the top of the soil feels dry.

Step 5
Fertilize with a well-balanced water-soluble fertilizer, diluted to half strength, once a month, or use slow-release fertilizer and replenish according to how long it lasts.
