1
Line up your tractor with the brush hog mower. Because the tractor is self-powered, it's usually easier to move the tractor up to the mower than vice versa. When the tractor is positioned properly, turn off the motor.
-
2
Raise the lift arms of the brush hog, one at a time, and slide the attachment ring at the end of the arm over the lynch pin on the back of the tractor. Attach the lift arm with the leveler last to ensure that the brush hog rides evenly. Secure the lift arms by wiring them at the junction of ring and lynch pin.

3
Attach the power take-off shaft (PTO) last, after the brush hog is secured, so that the PTO shaft is not absorbing the force of pulling. This will provide power to the brush hog from the tractor's motor.
-
4
Make sure you are comfortable with the setup and can maneuver the tractor and mower combine safely before taking it into areas of heavy brush. Practice turning and pivoting on flat, clear ground to acquire a good feel for the controls.
-
5
Mow your areas of brush in parallel rows. Avoid driving along the sides of hills, which can lead to rolling your tractor. Keep an eye out ahead for rocks and stumps that might be too large for the brush hog to handle. If necessary, get out to move the obstacles in order to avoid expensive and permanent damage to your equipment.
