How to Hook Up the Fta Receiver to a Computer

An FTA receiver is a free-to-air satellite dish receiver you use to pick up channels that individuals and companies broadcast without encrypting them. These satellite dish receivers work exactly the same as another other satellite receiver, except you don't pay for service. Like cable- and antenna-based television, you can connect the receiver to your computer as long as you have a video tuner card installed on the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you have a video tuner receiver card installed on your computer. These cards have inputs on them that resemble coaxial cable input/outputs on televisions and other video devices. If you do not have one, you can purchase a PCI express card video tuner from stores such as Best Buy and Radio Shack.

    • 2

      Power down the FTA receiver.

    • 3

Attach the coaxial cable onto the "Out" port on the FTA receiver. Connect the other end of the cable to the video tuner receiver card on the computer.

    • 4

Power on the receiver. Once the receiver has finished its boot up process, launch the television viewing program that came with the computer's video tuner card. This displays the content of the FTA receiver. Adjust the channel on the computer via the remote control for the receiver, or by directly manipulating the channel buttons on the receiver. You can watch free programming such as sports and business channels from around the world--Dubai, Jordan, Abu Dhabi for example. There is even some standard cable programming that you can receive, like HLN (formerly CNN Headline News). A full list of FTA programming is provided in Resources.
