Things You'll Need:
- Screwdriver
- Wire strippers
- Variable speed drill
- Philips head screw tip
- 1½-inch drywall screws
-
Step 1
Locate the electrical panel. Find the breaker which supplies electricity to the electric dryer and switch it to the off position.
-
Step 2
Remove the cover from the dryer outlet with a screwdriver to expose the poles where the wires will be connected. It is important that the number of poles in the outlet and the number of wires to be installed are the same.
-
Step 3
Strip 1-inch of the insulation from the wires with the wire strippers so they can be solidly inserted into the poles on the dryer outlet. Be certain the bare wire and the screw in the pole make contact.
-
Step 4
Insert the red and the black wires to the poles that are indicated on the dryer outlet and tighten them with a screwdriver. Repeat this with the white or neutral wire.
-
Step 5
Secure the outlet to a stud in the wall with the 1½-inch drywall screws. Replace the cover and turn to breaker back on.
