Things You'll Need:
- Water
- Laundry Detergent
-
Step 1
Avoid washing your Smartwool socks in the washing machine. These particular socks are made of merino sheeps wool. Although merino wool is more durable than your average wool, it still tends to fray with repeated machine washings.
-
Step 2
Determine if your Smartwool socks really need to be washed. Wool is a delicate material and even excessive hand washing can cause damage to the fibers. A quick smell test is normally a good way to gauge whether your wool socks need washing or not.
-
Step 3
Fill your sink with warm water. Add a little laundry detergent when your sink is about halfway full to minimize bubbles.
-
Step 4
Submerge your Smartwool socks into the water while softly working the dirt particles out with your fingers.
-
Step 5
Run your Smartwool socks under clean water as your sink drains. Gently squeeze the soap out with your hands.
-
Step 6
Softly squeeze any water out of your socks over the sink. Make sure they are soap free and only clean water is dripping out of your socks.
-
Step 7
Roll your wool socks into a towel and press down to soak up as much access water as possible.
-
Step 8
Lay your Smartwool socks on a flat surface in a well ventilated room. Smartwool socks can take a long time to dry. The more air flow they are exposed to the quicker they will dry.
