Asian Beetles, also know as, Asian Lady Bugs, Asian Lady Beetles, and Japanese Beetles are a huge problem in the fall. These bugs like to congregate on buildings in the late fall. While a nuisance, thankfully, they are not particularly destructive. Here are some ways to get rid of these annoying beetles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Repair. One of the easiest ways to keep the bugs out of your house is to seal their point to entry. Inspect screen windows and doors for cracks and tears. Repair or replace any damaged findings. Also inspect siding and door frames for gaps and seal if necessary.

  2. Step 2

Repel. Placing food grade diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of your house will repel Asian beetles. Food grade diatomaceous earth is widely available in feed supply stores and as an added bonus it kills fleas and ticks too.

  3. Step 3

Control. If your house becomes infested with Asian Beetles an effective way to get rid of them is to sweep or vacuum them up. If you vacuum the beetles it is important to empty the bag after doing so because the beetles may escape the vacuum. Unfortunately beetles seem to arrive daily, so disposing of your vacuum bag could become costly. An alternative is to stick a nylon stocking into the hose of the vacuum and secure it to the outside of the hose with a rubber band. After you vacuum up the beetles you simply remove the stocking, tie a knot in the open end and dispose.

Tips & Warnings
  • Asian Beetles more are attracted to contrasting colors on buildings such as white houses with black shutters.
  • Asian Beetles prefer southwest facing sides of buildings.
  • Asian Beetles prefer buildings that are near trees.
  • Asian Beetles are attracted to other Asian Beetles which is why you find huge groups of them in the fall.
