Instructions

    • 1

Research your family genealogy. Gather your family information, such as names, date of birth, place of birth, place of death (if applicable), marriage dates, maiden names and any nicknames. Organize the information in chronological order. This will make it easier to fill in the genealogy chart.

    • 2

Start on the left side of the paper. Write your name, date of birth and place of birth in Position 1. Working toward the right side of the paper, write your father's name, date of birth and place of birth in Position 2. Write your mother's information directly below your father's, in Position 3. Make sure to use her maiden name. Add the date of their marriage if there is room.

    • 3

Add your maternal and paternal grandparents' information, including birth and death dates, places of birth and death, and any marriage dates. Men are always placed in even positions, while women are always placed in odd positions. Continue to add information about your great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents if you have it.

    • 4

Continue filling out the chart until you run out of information. Leave any unknown information blank. You can always go back and add missing information later.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write surnames in capital letters so they stand out easier.

  • Record dates using the military system. For example: 16 June 1982.

  • Always use maiden names when applicable.

  • Place names should be written in this order: city, county, state.
