This article is about the proper way to perform a Dumbbell Lunge and how it benefits you...

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Dumbbell lunges are one of the more popular leg workouts I see in the gym. The reason I think they are so popular is due to how effective they are. Whether you are someone looking for a way to sculpt your legs and butt, or maybe you need that workout that can really strengthen the whole leg in one workout.

  2. Step 2

Lunges will really make you feel some burn in your Glutes, Hamstrings, quads, and your calves. That's right,...all of them.

And depending on what your experience is you can really manipulate these lunges to hit other parts of your body as well. There are many variations of lunges that people do. From one leg lunges to lunging in different directions, there are some cool ways to change your lunge up.

  3. Step 3

Starting with either dumbbells or a barbell across your shoulders, Stand up straight with your feet shoulder width apart. Step forward with your right leg and bend your knees until your left knee is only an inch from the ground. If you find that going this low is too difficult or it causes pain in your knee, I would recommend that don't go as low, but find where you feel like your still getting a good workout and not causing too much discomfort. Push up and back with your right leg until you are in the starting position and repeat with the opposite leg.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some tips here while you are doing these lunges is to always remember to keep your back tight and look up. Try not to bounce in the bottom position and start off with a relatively light weight until your technique is good. You can alternate between legs during a set or do all one leg and then the other, the choice is yours. Pay particular attention to your balance. Nobody wants to see you fall over halfway through your reps. Lol... Its happened to me!
  • Remember when doing a Dumbbell lunge pick the right weight, keep your back straight, and don't let your knee pass over your foot when performing the lunge..
