Things You'll Need:
- For topping and over the apple middle layer you will need the following:
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 chopped walnuts, optional
- For Batter:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 large apple, peeled and thinly sliced. Use Macintosh or other baking apple. For moister cake, try 2 medium apples.
- 9" tube pan, lightly greased and floured.

Step 1
Mix the cinnamon, 1/2 cup sugar and walnuts together in small bowl and set aside.

In larger mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually, add 1 cup sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, then vanilla. Beat until blended.

Sift remaining dry ingredients, the flour, baking powder & soda, and salt, together in separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredient mix to the batter, alternating with the sour cream, on low speed, until ingredients are completely blended.

Take the greased tube pan and spread 1/2 of the batter into pan. Top with the thinly sliced apples spread evenly. Sprinkle 2/3 of the walnut mixture over apples, then add remaining batter making sure to cover the apples completely. Sprinkle remaining walnut mixture over top.

Bake approximately 40 minutes at 375 or until toothpick or knife inserted in middle of cake is clean.
