Daybeds are a convenient solution for guest bedrooms and children's rooms because they can easily transform from a lounge area to a bed. They are also an efficient way for college students to save money on a couch or loveseat. If you want a daybed and have a twin bed at home, consider converting it into a daybed. You will save money and the process will take a minimal amount of time.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Headboard
  • Footboard
  • Twin bed
  • Painted or stained wooden 1x4 boards/slats
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Large throw pillows
  1. Step 1

Start with an assembled twin bed. You will need both a headboard and a footboard for this project. Ideally, the headboard and footboard should be about the same height.

Measure the distance from headboard to footboard of the twin bed. You will be attaching two wooden boards or slats to create a sturdy backboard. You can purchase two 1x4 inch boards from your local home improvement store and cut them to fit the back side of the daybed. Make sure the boards are stained or painted a similar color as the head and footboards.

Attach the 1x4s with screws and a power screwdriver. Screw each side of the board onto the head or footboard with two screws. Be sure to sink the screw into a solid portion of the head or footboard.

Once you have attached the backboard to your twin bed, you have a daybed. However, to make the bed a more comfortable sitting area you will need some large throw pillows. Line the throw pillows along the backboard of the daybed.

  5. Step 5

After completing this project, you can use the daybed as a sitting area during the day and a sleeping area by night. Just throw the pillows on the floor when it comes time to go to bed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have a footboard, push the twin bed against a corner wall. This will create a back and one side of your day bed. Make sure the headboard is on the side without a wall. Add pillows around all sides of the bed to create a seating area.
