Create Origami Christmas Lights
Create Origami Christmas Lights

Make cute unique Christmas or party decorations with a few sheets of paper and your imagination.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • String of Christmas Lights
  • 1 sheet of 5x5 or 6x6 paper for every decoration you want to make.
  1. Step 1

Decorate your papers. The one pictured at the intro to this article was created by my three year old and some crayons rubber banded together. You can use Origami paper, Color Copies you’re your favorite photos or prints, or wrapping paper.

  2. Step 2

Fold your paper diagonally in both directions. You should now have an X through your paper (see image)

  3. Step 3

Fold your paper in half taco style.

  4. Step 4

Now this is the most difficult step to understand visually. You need to tuck in the right and left sides of your folded paper. When pressed flat you should have a triangle.

  5. Step 5

Fold up the right and left side of your triangle. Flip and repeat on the back. When pressed flat you should now have a diamond.

  6. Step 6

Fold in the right and left sides of your diamond to the center. Flip and repeat on the back.

  7. Step 7

Tuck the top left of your diamond into the pocket you made in the previous step. Repeat on left. Flip and repeat on the back.

  8. Step 8

You will now see a small hole at the bottom of your diamond. Press your lips to the hole and inflate your Origami Balloon. Try not to get the paper too wet. You may need to insert a pen to make the hole a little bigger.

  9. Step 9

Place the Origami Balloon onto a Christmas light. Try to slide it passed the green portion of the light to make sure it stays on.

Tips & Warnings
  • If this set of directions did not help you, google Origami Balloons to get several more versions of the same thing. Another set of directions and images may be what you need.
  • Although your Christmas lights will not get too hot, I wouldn't leave these lights unattended.
