How to Play Witch in the Well

Are you looking for things for kids to do at a Halloween party that is fun and hasn't been done to death? Here is a game that your children can play at a Halloween party after the rest of the festivities are done and the children are waiting for their parents to pick them up.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• 4 or more children

1. First set up the playing area. The area should be an area where the children can run around safely. You'll have what we'll refer to as the safe line. and at the other end of the playing area you'll want 'the well' The well can be anything that The witch can hide behind and not be seen by the other participants. (It could be a barrel or a trash can or just about anything.

2. Once you have the area set up, Designate the person to be the witch. Then you'll need a person to be the mother. We usually always had a younger child who around who was not really playing the game but wanted to run with the rest of the children so we called this child 'the baby'. The witch could never catch 'the baby' even though 'the baby' was with the rest of the children.

3. To begin the game, the witch goes up and hides behind the well and the mother and the 'children with the baby go beyond the safe line. Once everyone is in place, the game begins. The mother says "Let me see your hands!" the children stand and shows the mother their hands. The mother goes to each of them and shakes her head and says as she goes to each one. Dirty, dirty, dirty. Children, go to the well and wash your hands." Then when they get up close to the well the witch hollers "Boo!"

4. The children go running back to the mother. "There's a witch in the well, there's a witch in the well." The mother shakes her head. "There isn't either a witch in the well, go back to the well and wash your hands."

5. This time the kids go up to the well and when they get close, the witch jumps out and grabs one of them. The other children run beyond the safe line. The child that was caught becomes the witch, the witch becomes the mother and the game starts over.
