Salsa makes a wonderful appetizer anytime!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tomatoes
  • Avocado
  • Vidalia onion
  • Garlic
  • Lemon juice
  • Hot sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Jalapeno
  • Parsley
  • Chives
  1. Step 1

Home made salsa is delicious with Tortilla chips and can be served anytime. When I have fresh tomatoes from the garden I will use them but during the winter months I go to our farmer's market to get the freshest tomatoes that I can get for my recipe. Chop 3 tomatoes and place in a mixing bowl. Chop 2 avocados into small pieces and add to the chopped tomatoes. Cut up 1 Vidalia onion and add to the mixture. I always use Vidalia because the sweet taste adds to this recipe. The hot and the sweet taste of this salsa goes well together.

  2. Step 2

Chop 2 cloves of garlic and add to the mixture along with snipped chives and fresh parsley. Add 2 teaspoons of Lemon Juice along with 1 teaspoon of hot pepper sauce. Feel free to use the juice from a fresh lemon if you have one on hand. I use different hot pepper sauces depending on what I have in the pantry so whichever brand you have will be fine. Salt and Pepper your mixture and set aside.

  3. Step 3

Take 1 jalapeno pepper and remove the seeds. Cut into very small pieces because jalapeno are very hot and the idea is to give your salsa a little zing without adding too much heat to the recipe. Add your jalapeno pepper to your mixture and then covor and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. I like to serve my chilled salsa with tortilla chips but you can use your favorite chips and your guests will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Lime juice can be substituted for the Lemon juice
  • The herb cilantro can also be added to this recipe
  • Be sure to inform your family and guests that you have added a jalapeno to the salsa because some people cannot handle the heat from jalapeno peppers.
