- Sponge
- Wood cleaner
- Sandpaper
- 2 cloths or rags
- Liquid deglosser
- Paint brush
- Refinishing stain
- Varnish

Remove the cabinet handles from the cabinet.

Dip a sponge into wood cleaner liquid, then use the sponge to clean the cabinet handles. Clean the entire surface of the handles, then set them aside to dry for an hour or so.

Use sandpaper to lightly sand the cabinet handles. This will smooth the surface of the handles, removing any bumps or protrusions.

Use a cloth or a rag to dust off the cabinet handles. This is absolutely necessary after a sanding and before deglossing and staining.

Use a liquid deglosser to soften the entire surface of the cabinet handles.

Wipe the entire surface of the cabinet handles with your chosen stain. Use a cloth or a rag to do the wiping. When finished staining, use a clean rag to wipe away any excess stain.

Set the cabinet handles aside to dry. Allow around 24 hours for this to take place.

Apply a coat of varnish, wait 2 to 3 hours, then apply a second coat of varnish. Use a paint brush. Let the cabinet handles dry completely, then reattach them to the cabinet.
